What is Islam? A Message of Peace

Hello, and welcome! We are so happy to have you here to learn about Islam. The word “Islam” might be new to you, but its meaning is very simple and beautiful. In Arabic, “Islam” means “peace” and “submission.” It’s about finding peace in your heart by submitting to the will of God, or “Allah” in Arabic.

The Foundation of Faith

Imagine you are a small boat in a big, wide ocean. You can try to row against the waves, or you can let the wind and currents guide you. Islam is like trusting that the best path is to let God guide you. This trust and peace is at the very core of the religion. It’s a message that has been sent to people for thousands of years, through many different prophets.

We, as Muslims, believe that there is only one God, who created everything in the universe. This God is kind, merciful, and all-powerful. He sent many prophets—like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus—to teach people how to live good lives and worship Him. The final prophet, according to Muslims, was a man named Muhammad (peace be upon him), who lived in the city of Mecca in Arabia. He received the final message from God, which is contained in the Holy Quran.

The Holy Quran: A Guide for Life

The Quran is not just a book of rules. It is a guide for life, filled with stories, wisdom, and beautiful lessons. We believe it is the direct word of God, revealed to Prophet Muhammad. It teaches about kindness to others, taking care of the poor, being honest, and treating everyone with respect. Think of it as a special instruction manual for a happy and peaceful life, sent by the One who created us.

For Muslims, life isn’t just about what you can see. It’s also about what you believe in your heart. This is called Faith (or Iman in Arabic), and it has six main parts. The first and most important part is believing in the One God. The other parts are believing in His angels, His holy books (like the Quran), all of His prophets, the Day of Judgment (when everyone will be judged for their actions), and that everything happens for a reason because God has a plan.

These beliefs are the foundation of a Muslim’s life. They help a person feel connected to something bigger than themselves and give them a sense of purpose. This faith in the heart is what makes a person feel complete and at peace. In the next article, we will talk about the things Muslims do to show their faith every day.
